Female | 42

I’m 42 and I haven’t had a period in 3 months and the 3 before were lighter shorter but very crampy . 12 months ago I was having heavier, longer and more painful periods. I had an ultrasound, an internal ultrasound and a Pap test which all showed everything is normal. Recently I saw an OB GYN. I asked if I could be perimenopausal. She asked if I get hot flashes and when I said no she basically brushed off the question. I don’t get hot flashes and know that not always a symptom. I do have more facial hair, mood swings, sleep problems, night sweats and obviously irregular periods. She did a biopsy of my uterine lining. She did not ask if there was any possibility that I could be pregnant first. I am most likely not as my boyfriend has retrograde ejaculation and does not ejaculate when he orgasm. Her solution was to put in an IUD which I have not had done as of yet the appointment to do so is coming up. I understand that IUDs can lessen painful heavy periods that can occur before menopause. But as I am not having periods or any signs of a period would there be any benefit to this? I have heard many horror stories of IUDs and I’m just trying to make a good decision.

Answered on 27th Mar '24

According to your symptoms, you are most likely having perimenopause. Women are told that menopause is only certain and official after 12 consecutive months without menstruating. It is suggested that you have a discussion with a gynecologist in regard to your symptoms and worries. They can make the decision for you whether an IUD will be suitable for you

Female | 18

Hi there, I’m a sexually active female for reference. I have been sexually active for 5 months now and have never had an issue with pain related to sex. This was until the last couple of days. My boyfriend and I had not seen each other in 3 weeks and I just returned home from my trip. We decided to celebrate by having sex. Our celebration ended when I started feeling this immense pain. My boyfriend believes that it could have been from there not being enough lubrication. This pain has continued tor 3 days now, even hurting while not having sex. Sex definitely heightens the pain and discomfort. We have not had sex sense the pain started because it hurts too bad. It even hurts when it is being rubbed. The pain is located surrounding the opening of my vagina, both inside and out, seemingly on the side furthest from my butt. Does that make sense? This is a concern of mine and I was wondering if there was a logical explanation and perhaps an at home treatment? Along the same lines, not sure if they are related. My vagina has been very itchy. I have not noticed any irregular discharge. What may be causing this and what can be done? Also, I just recently started two new supplements. I notice my vaginal discharged had an odor. I started the “Rae’s vaginal balance” supplement and the “Azo cranberry” supplement in hopes to rectify the situation. Is there a reason why I stink and what can I do to fix the issue?

Answered on 18th Jan '24

In ICSI , another form of the procedure, it is even possible to use sperm that have abnormal shapes or movement since a single sperm can be injected directly into an egg. Better sperm quality is often preferred in both IVF( In Vitro Fertilization) and IUI (Intrauterine Insemination), though certain abnormalities are not ruled out entirely. It is important to see a specialist in fertility or reproductive endocrinologist who will help determine the most appropriate strategy depending on the specificities of sperm abnormalities.

What to expect after taking methotrexate for ectopic pregnancy

Answered on 3rd Feb '23

Methotrexate is usually effective in treating ectopic pregnancies. Still, it is likely that after taking methotrexate for an ectopic pregnancy, you will experience some side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. You may also experience some abdominal pain and cramping. These side effects typically go away within a few days. However, in some cases, the fallopian tube may be damaged or removed during treatment, making it difficult or impossible to conceive naturally. In such cases, IVF can be used as a means of helping the couple achieve a successful pregnancy. But it's important to have regular follow-ups and checkups to ensure that the pregnancy has been terminated and that you are recovering well.

After ectopic pregnancy surgery when to try to conceive

Answered on 3rd Feb '23

It is highly recommended that you wait at least three to six months after ectopic pregnancy surgery to try to conceive again using IVF or other methods. This gives your body time to heal and prepare for another pregnancy. It is also important to talk to your gynecologist about possible risks and ensure that your body is ready for conception.
